Lived his life as a laborer and spent 50 years at Pelz Wrecking prior to his retirement. Jerry was a Fort Wayne Historian, having won the historian contest at the Three Rivers Festival for two years in a row.
Having a strong faith since his early childhood, Jerry was a founding member of Broadway Christian Church beginning in 1974. He was an avid local sports fan. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was well loved and liked by everyone he met.
Surviving are his wife, Margie Somers; daughter, LueAnn (Shawn) Somers-Carroll; son, Timothy K Somers; two grandchildren, Kyle (Chelsea) and Shelby (Stephen) Al-Bahrani; three great-grandchildren, all of Ft. Wayne, IN. He also leaves behind sister, Judy Lee of New Haven, IN; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and Paul; and two sisters, Phyllis and Helen; and his first wife, GloraBelle Hamilton-Somers; and step-son, William D. Aaron.
A funeral service will be held at 4 pm on Monday, August 23, 2021 at Broadway Christian Church, 910 Broadway, Ft. Wayne, IN 46802. Visitation will also be held from 2 pm to 4 pm at the church prior to the service.
