He was a famous sportsman at North Side High School and graduated in 1939. Betty DeWitt (Mary Elizabeth Shaw) graduated in 1940 but we never met. I moved to Dallas, Texas with my daughter and her neighbor, Elizabeth Whaley (class of 1957) gave me information about Gordy 1-1/2 yrs. ago since her relatives lived next to him at Round Lake.  Gordy and I had weekly phone calls reviewing old school information.  He is happily united with his wife, Phyllis and now in God's Heaven.

     I was saddened to read about Gordy's passing. Gordy and Phyllis were very good friends of my parents, Bill and Phyllis Mahuren. They did many things together and, of course, we kids were often involved. We live at Lake George now and still own the adjacent lot my parents bought from Gordy and Phyllis. We continued to call it "Turners' lot " for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort , as we do, in the wonderful memories of Gordy and Phyllis.

What can be said of Gordy.  Well, everything!  He was the best neighbor, the best friend, best teacher... I met him and Phylis when we bought the cottage next door when I was in the 6th grade.  Such a patient man.  A great role model.  Such a story teller  GOD, be ready to laugh and smile alot when Gordy comes through those gates!  Prayers to the family of this great man.

My condolences to family and all those who were touched by Gordy's kindness.  A truly wonderful man will be missed by many.

I knew Gordy for many years.  I grew up and lived two house down from him at round  lake.  I fished with him many times and he always had a interesting story to tell.  He will be missed for sure.  Prayers to his family at this time.

What a wonderful uncle, Gordy was! I have so many great memories of our good times with Phyl and Gordy at Rome City and Round Lake--even back to Hubertus Street. I think of those days often. His friendliness and humor will be misssed by all. Love and sympathy to Steve and Linda and families.

I met Gordy this summer at Woodview while visiting my dad.  We had many fun times with other residents on the front porch.  Gordy was a true gentleman and had a great sense of humor!  His passing was and still is a shock to many.  He went out with a bang after celebrating his birthday and dancing at the party that evening!  I can only wish I will be so lucky.  We will truly miss Gordy at Woodview.  Our prayers and thoughts are with his whole family.

I loved and miss my uncle Gordy my dad's twin brother.Two of the best men has left us with the greatest memories.  miss you both
