So sorry about Doc's passing. He was not only my asst. principal throughout my days at Leo Jr/Sr High School, he was also a neighbor and later in life a friend who I loved talking to and hear old stories from "back in the high school days" while drinking a cold beverage at the Leo Legion. He had some great stories as one could imagine. Doc will be deeply missed. Prayers, Joe, Jenifer and your entire family.

Joe and Jenifer sorry I was not able to attend your celebration of Herb's life. Life has a way of getting in the way.
Your dad was one of my greatest friends. He was born to be a principal. He had a radar that could find the truth in the biggest wave of deceit.
I especially appreciated the times we just sat and talked, sometime it was in a boat and sometimes over a cup of coffee. One of those times in a boat was when your mom and dad went with us to Canada. Joe this was your first trip outside the country. Your mom didn't especially enjoy the time but your dad enjoyed it. He caught his limit and mine that he reminded me several times.
A special time was when we had just lost our daughter. Herb called me up and we met at the Cedarville restaurant. His words meant so much to me.
He was very proud of both of you. When we talked we usually included times that he shared the good times you had and the times that you were facing problems. One of the things I remember is that even when he talked about your problems it was always with a confidence that both of you would successfully find a way. He believed in both of you.
May God bless you both and strengthen you through this day.

Herb Stuelpe took a chance on me when he encouraged the Leo Jr./Sr. High School interview committee to hire me. They hired me (!), and under the tutelage of the greatest educational leader I ever knew, Dr. Stuelpe helped mold me into a teacher. He was a "guide on the side" to many, many teachers and students, and we all benefited from his leadership, his advice, his gentle correction, and his sense of humor. I am proud to have known him and called him friend. He was an artist in the molding of human beings in the classroom, and men like him are few and far between.

We were fellow pew-dwellers at LUMC and Herb was principal
at Leo as our kids passed through. He was highly regarded and
respected as a person and as an administrator. We shared values.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time of loss.

I’m Bob and Doris Leeper’s daughter, Kay. Herb and Bonnie were wonderful people, and close friends of ours years ago. I’ll never forget when Herb was principle at Leo and I was a Sophomore. I skipped school to go shopping at Glenbrook, but the next day a needed a note from my parents stating why I missed school. So I wrote the note and forged my mom’s signature thinking no one would no the difference. Unfortunately Herb saw my note and new instantly it was not my mom’s handwriting. Needless to say I got called to the principals office!!!! I never did that again.

Joe, Jen & family -
I am so sorry. Your dad was such a great guy. I will always remember joking around with him at school (thanks to my friendship with Joe) which probably gave me a little different perspective than someone who had to see him”officially.” May you find comfort in the happiness and inspiration your dad gave to so many. Praying for and thinking of you and your family in the days to come.

Herb hired me as an art and English teacher in 1984. I worked for him until he retired. He was a great leader, mentor, and friend. He inspired teachers to be their best. He had a story for every occasion and situation. His guidance to me as a young teacher will be forever valued. May he now spend forever with his beloved Bonnie.
Jen and Joe, I will keep you all in my prayers.

Doc loved wearing baseball caps. He had many and each of them had a special meaning. It was what we often talked about. Whether it was a college, place on the earth or whatever it was, he had a story behind it. Sometimes he would tell you a story that wasn’t true to see if he could pull it off as true. Sometimes he did, sometimes I called his bluff. You will be missed Doc!
