Hertha C. Moran

Hertha Clare Moran, 101, passed away Thursday July 27, 2023, at Lutheran Life Villages of Pine Valley in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born July 10, 1922, in Fort Wayne, IN, the daughter of Herman M. and Clara (Diederich) Hoffman. She was a graduate of South Side High School and Indiana University. In 1946 she married Richard J. Moran and resided in Garrett for 53 years. In 1970 she became employed by the Garrett Public Library. Four years later, she was appointed Library Director and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1998. Always active in community affairs, she was named Citizen of the Year in 1991, by the Garrett Chamber of Commerce. In 1995 she was awarded the Larry A. Conrad, Civic Service Award, presented annually by the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns. At the time of her death, her memberships included, lifelong member of Indiana University Alumni Association, member Emeritus Garrett Public Library Foundation Board, Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority and Trinity English Lutheran Church.

Hertha is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Wolfhard) Ramm of Alexandria, VA; Maureen Shippy of Fort Wayne, IN; grandsons, Nicholas Ramm, Michael Ramm, Tyler (Chelsea) Shippy, Eric (Stephanie) Shippy, great granddaughters, Addison, Aubrey, Ayda and a great grandson Cooper Shippy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Moran and son, Thomas M. Moran and son in law, Gary Shippy, siblings, Helen Dorothy Hoffman, Theodore Diedrich Hoffman, Albert C. Hoffman, Dorothy Fredericka Hoffman, Paul George Hoffman, William Howard Hoffman.

Memorial service will be 4pm Sunday August 13, 2023, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home 1320 E. Dupont Road Fort Wayne IN, with visitation from 1-4pm at the funeral home.
