Hurshell LeRoy Nelson

Hurshell LeRoy Nelson, age 92, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away on April 27, 2025. Born on May 29, 1932, to parents Ward and Letha (Hile) Nelson, Hurshell was a beloved father, husband, and proud veteran of the United States Army.

Hurshell shared many happy years of marriage together with his wife, Beverly Jean (Crabill) Nelson. They created a loving legacy with their two daughters, Karen and Paula. He worked as an electrician for many years. In his spare time, Hurshell found joy in the soil of his garden, growing rows of thriving plants of many varieties. He was also an avid clock collector, drawn to the elegance of their craftsmanship. Hurshell expanded his admiration by creating beautiful woodwork himself.

Hurshell is survived by his daughters, Karen Bohnstedt and Paula (Randy) Grawcock; grandchildren, Brad (Lindsay) Bohnstedt, Amy (Joe) Wentworth, Andrew (Kelsey) Grawcock, Nolan (Megan) Bohnstedt; and eight great-grandchildren who all brought Hurshell great happiness. Hurshell is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean (Crabill) Nelson; parents, Ward and Letha (Hile) Nelson; and twelve siblings.

A private service will be held in Hurshell’s honor. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Hurshell throughout his life.

Hurshell will forever be loved and missed by so many whose lives he touched. His memory will be held and cherished in their hearts.
