Irene Kite (Argerbright), age 97, of Fort Wayne, was called home on Monday, January 27, 2025. She was born to Ray and Bessie Argerbright and was raised on various farms throughout her youth along with her 6 sisters and 1 brother. At the age of 16, Irene started working at General Electric where she delivered parts to different buildings by riding the Trolley car in downtown Fort Wayne. While in the parts department, she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Kite, who was the love of her life, and they married on May 3, 1946. They had a son, David, and a daughter, Diana. She was very hard working and passed this work ethic down to her family. She always put herself into any job, and those who worked with her knew it. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, traveling, and bowling. She even learned to play golf, so she and Bob could spend more time together. Irene and Bob bowled in a mixed league, and she also bowled for a women’s league. Irene passed on her enjoyment of bowling to Diana, who later joined her in the women’s league. She truly enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She used her many talents in crocheting and sewing to make them many gifts, including making all of them quilts. These handmade gifts were truly from the heart, and will serve as a remembrance for generations. Outside of spending time with family, she enjoyed spending time outside, growing flowers, and gardening to harvest vegetables for canning and making spaghetti sauce with her daughter and granddaughters. Irene had a unique gift for resuscitating plants that would only thrive in her care. Her garden was never without several varieties of flowers, usually with a splash of purple. Her windows were never without bird feeders, complete with homemade suet cakes. Bird watching was a joy of hers, so there were always blue jays, cardinals, bluebirds, and many others, who appreciated a good meal and knew where to get one.As the always prepared Grandma and GramGram, she was forever ready for family time and babysitting. Whether it be the memories of the toys GramGram had at her house, or the time spent playing games and doing puzzles, her infectious laugh is one thing she was never without. Irene was a selfless woman who always gave of herself, her talents, her knowledge, and advice as to what makes a great friendship last. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Catherine Manges, Naomi Keller, Lorene Jordan, Pauline Ware, Helen Friemoth and Bernice Koenemann; and brother George Argerbright. Irene is survived by her daughter, Diana Vargo of Fort Wayne, and son David (Norma) Kite of Deltona, FL, as well as by six grandchildren: Angela Kite of Deltona, FL, Doug Vargo of Fort Wayne, IN: Patty Dunn of Longwood, FL; Kathy Kite of Deltona, FL; Katie Adelman of Fort Wayne, IN; and Elizabeth (Ryan) Frey of Fishers, IN; along with six great-grandchildren.
