

James “Jim” Dale Farrell II, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025 at the age of 73. Jim was surrounded by the loving embrace of his family when he was called home to be with God, finding eternal rest in heaven.
The oldest son of James D. and Regina (Holliday) Farrell, Jim grew up as a lifelong Scout, earning the coveted rank of Eagle Scout, and attending Elmhurst Church of the Nazarene and Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Jim later became a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene. His faith was important to him, and he and his wife, Janean, enjoyed volunteering at Grace Point.
Jim served his country for six years in the Air National Guard at the 122nd division. He spent most of his career in the shoe and car industries. Jim and his first wife, Kathy, were the owners of Kaye’s Shoe Store in Georgetown Square. He later worked at the Indiana Auto Auction for over a decade as a Transportation Manager, working alongside his father and daughter for a portion of the time. He later returned to the shoe industry as a buyer for Three Rivers Running Company and other local shoe stores.
Known for his humor and playful spirit, Jim delighted in telling jokes that brought laughter and lightheartedness everywhere he went. Sharing amusing stories, giving funny nicknames and being lovingly ornery was his special way of connecting with others.
Jim was known for his unwavering love for his family. Jim’s love was often expressed through his passion for cooking. Whether it was a holiday feast or a simple Sunday lunch, his meals were more than just food—they were an expression of love and care.
Jim was an avid fisherman, and found peace and contentment by the water, casting lines and reeling in memories with his family and friends. Jim also had a passion for animals of all kinds, from domestic pets to wildlife. He found happiness in the simple act of nurturing God’s creatures.Jim’s garden was his sanctuary, where he lovingly tended to his prized tomatoes and other herbs, watching them grow and flourish each season. He also found joy in cheering on his favorite Nascar drivers, having adventures in Las Vegas, and vacationing at the West Baden Springs Hotel.
Jim is survived by his loving family: Janean (DeFord) Farrell, his wife of 27 years, his four children, Callie Brooke of Columbia City, Cassie (Brett) Phillips of Loveland, Colorado, Josh (Kristen) Farrell of Fort Wayne, and Jared (Akane) Winans of Brownsburg, Indiana, as well as eight grandchildren: Harrison (Kayla) Brady, Hayden Brady, Lillie Brady, Riley Brooke, McKenna Farrell, Connor Farrell, Mio Winans, and Myles Phillips. Jim is also survived by his mother, Regina (Holliday) Farrell of Fort Wayne, his brother, Geray (Lisa) Farrell of Fort Wayne, his brother-in-law, David “Bear” (Carol) Treace, as well as a several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of three of his children, Kathy (Kern) Farrell, and his father, James D. Farrell.
A Celebration of Jim’s life will be will be 11:00 am Monday, February 3, 2025, at D.O McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2:00-6:00 pm Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the funeral home. Committal and Burial at Covington Cemetery.
