Jared Dean Starkey, a beacon of joy and laughter for all who were fortunate enough to know him, passed away on October 23, 2024, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the age of 32. Born on July 11, 1992, in Bluffton, Indiana, Jared's journey through life was filled with love, laughter, and an unyielding spirit that touched everyone he met.
From the moment he entered the world, Jared was destined to bring happiness to those around him. He never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. His life was characterized by his unyielding resourcefulness and boundless charisma, traits he displayed from a young age. At the age of seven, when his mother got her car stuck in the backyard Jared said, ‘I’ll be back”. A little while later he showed up with a tow truck. By age eight, he had already leveraged his persuasive personality to convince the local newspaper to grant him a paper route, despite being underage.
He was known for his profound kindness and ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. Jared’s famous phrase, "Don't worry, I gotch you," became a comforting refrain for those who knew him. His superpower of persuasion with personality, charisma and genuine nature drew people in, turning strangers into friends. Whether it was as a two-year-old child, charming patrons at the Golden Corral to carry a tray of ice cream treats to his table when he was supposed to be with his older brother getting a single dessert, or as an adult making someone's day brighter, Jared had a unique ability to impact the lives of those around him.
Jared is survived by his mother, Tracy Basgall and his son, Julian Dean Starkey, who carries forward his father's legacy of kindness and laughter. Jared's spirit also lives on through his sisters, Stevi Starkey and Taylor Putney. In addition, his numerous nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends and family will remember him for his joyful spirit, warmth and laughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Starkey; and brother, Dillon Starkey.
Jared’s life will be honored beginning at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services-Mungovan, 2114 South Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802, with a celebration of life service beginning at 3:00 PM. The family invites all who knew him to join in remembering a man who brought so much light into the world. In honor of Jared's life, laughter, and love, attendees are encouraged to share their favorite stories and memories.
