Jennie E. Garner Smith

JENNIE ELEANOR GARNER SMITH, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne. She was born Dec. 8, 1919. She was the daughter of Earl and Eleanor McNeel Garner. She was a native of Coles County, Ill. and a graduate of Eastern Illinois State Teachers College. She taught Home Economics and English at several schools; among them, Garrett High School, Garrett, Ind. She was a member of Christ's Church at Georgetown. She is survived by daughters, Mary (Jack) Overmeyer of Fort Wayne, Harriet (Ralph) Ely of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Anita (Reggie) Blackwell of Weaterford, Texas, and Marcia (Lester) Lierman of Fort Worth, Texas; sons, Paul (Barbara) Smith of Charleston, S.C., Dr. Harold (Linda) Smith of Nashville, Tenn., and Douglas Smith of Red Lodge, Mont.; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Smith; daughter, Reta Sue Smith; and her grandchildren, Julie Overmeyer and Steven Ely. Funeral Service is 11 a.m., Monday, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Graveside service is 3 p.m. Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, Ind.
