John M. Bentz M.D., 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Friday, March 23, 2018. Born in North Manchester, Indiana, John was the son of the late Gail and E. Pauline Bentz. John graduated from North Side High in 1960. North Side is where John met his future wife Ellen. On June 13, 1964 John married the love of his life, Ellen. He earned his undergraduate degree in 1965 and his doctorate in 1969 from Indiana University. John served his residency in OBGYN at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. John worked for Caylor-Nickel Clinic in Bluffton from 1974-1990. He then worked for Fort Wayne OBGYN from 1990-1995, he then worked part time back at the Caylor-Nickel Clinic in Bluffton until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, American College of OBGYN; American College of Surgeons. John enjoyed refinishing antique furniture in his youth. In his later years he enjoyed creating family Christmas cards. He had a very large passion for animals. John enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's school events. Surviving are his wife, Ellen Bentz of Fort Wayne; son, John "Jack" (Wendy) Bentz of Fort Wayne; daughter, Danielle (Chad) Bechert, M.D. of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Abigail Bentz, Elaina Bentz, Luke Bentz, Benjamin Bentz, Casey Bechert, Megan Bechert, Emily Bechert; and sister, Dana (David) Smith of Fort Wayne. Service is 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 202 West Rudisill Blvd., with calling one hour prior, Rev. David Peterson officiating. Calling at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road Monday, March 26, 2018, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
