

JOHN P. "POSTMAN" FREISTROFFER, 73, of Fort Wayne, died on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Select Specialty Hospital. Born March 29, 1941, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Marie (Deikman) and Paul Freistroffer. He was a postal worker for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 42 years of service. After retirement, he worked for Harding Dahm for 10 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 499 and a 50 year member of N.A.L.C. 116. He was a die hard Cubs fan his entire life. He loved his grandchildren and also enjoyed playing cards at Deer Park and loved his time at the post office. Surviving are his wife, Susan (Worthman) Freistroffer; three children, Matthew (Beth) Freistroffer, Scott (Lyndie) Freistroffer and Karen (John) Battell, all of Fort Wayne; sisters, Jeanne (Joseph) Hammen and Nancy (T. Michael) Murphy, both of Fort Wayne; and seven grandchildren, Samantha, Sandra, Michael, Jack, Anne, and William Freistroffer and Grace Battell. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy (Henry) LeMaster. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 N. Wells St., with calling one hour prior. Father Joseph Gaughan officiating. Calling also from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Cremation.
