

John J. Shannon, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023. Born on March 28, 1937, in Bluffton, he was a son of the late Robert and Viola (Ladig) Shannon. He worked as a local delivery truck driver for Purolator, Antech, and was a CNA. He was an amazing gardener with a quintessential “Green Thumb”, as well as being an avid volunteer at the Red Cross, as a blood mobile driver, CPR Instructor, First Aid Station Team for urgent care, and was awarded the Red Cross award for volunteer service. He was passionate about his family and organized the yearly family reunions; he enjoyed baking, especially his famous Christmas treats. He had a true passion for shopping for deals at the flea market, garage sales, and anywhere he could find a deal.
He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Betty A. (Harris) Shannon; daughter, Laura (Shawn) Dunafin; son, Jeff Shannon; and grandchildren Aidan, Kaitlyn, and Molly. He was also preceded in death by his five sisters and six brothers.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne. For all of those attending, please do NOT dress up, and bring your favorite (possibly inappropriate) jokes and memories with you. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to Turnstone Center.
