Obituary of John Manahan Siemer
JOHN MANAHAN SIEMER, 89, of Fort Wayne, died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at his residence. Born Sept. 17, 1922, in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. A pioneer of local television broadcasting in Fort Wayne, he was beloved by a generation of baby boomers as "Engineer John" for his morning cartoon show. He was a staff announcer at WKJG Channel 33 and retired from WFFT Channel 55 in 1989. He was a member of Maumee Masonic Lodge 725, Scottish Rite and American Legion Post 296. Surviving are his wife, Anne; daughter, Christi (John) Burns of Fort Wayne; son, Mark (Sheila) Siemer of Aurora, Colo.; stepdaughters, Annette (Garry) Moorman of Fenton, Mich. and Jeanette (Lee) Keefer of Fort Wayne; stepson, Alan (Linda) Roman of Queen Creek, Ariz.; several grandchildren; and brothers, Roland (Ruth) of Westchester, Ohio and Eugene (Betty) of Salida, Colo. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Perillo; son, Randy; and first wife, Muriel. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road.
