JOSEPH E. "SMOKING' JOE" DENNIS SR., 72, of New Haven, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. He was born in Highpoint, N.C. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. He retired from Lutheran Homes after 15 years. He is survived by a sister, Marcella (Betsy) Willard of N.C.; daughters, Debra (David) Bolling and Susan Gardenour; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, Joseph Jr. and Samuel; six brothers; and two sisters. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 N. Wells St., with visitation one hour prior. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, with military honors. Memorials to the family.
