Jyoti P. Guha

Dr. Jyoti P. Guha, 83, passed away Thursday July 30, 2020 at Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born August 2, 1936 in Dhubri, India, the son of the late Durga Mohon and Bela Guha. Jyoti received his Doctorate from The University of Sheffield in England and subsequently moved back to India where he married his wife Maya of 54 years on January 31, 1966. They moved to Europe where Jyoti taught and conducted research in several countries including Slovenia and France, and also in Africa. He moved to the United States with his wife and two daughters in 1980 and worked as a research professor and scientist in Materials Science in Chicago, Gainesville, Florida and Rolla, Missouri. Jyoti shared his passion for research with numerous graduate students, published countless scientific papers, and lectured at various places throughout the world. His global lifestyle inspired and fueled his passion for food and travel during a full and active life with his wife. He retired from the University of Missouri in Rolla after almost 15 years of teaching and research and continued consulting in various locations worldwide, of which the Institute Jozef Stefan in Slovenia was his favorite. Dr. Guha was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be missed greatly. He is survived by his wife Maya Guha, children Tania Boyd of Fort Wayne, IN, and Sharmistha Jon of Kansas City, MO; and six grandchildren Ryan, Alex, Eric, Neil, Matthew, and Brianna. Jyoti was preceded in death by his brother Debaprasad Guha and sister Tapati Roychoudhuri. Private services will be held. Arrangements by D.O.
