

Kenneth "Ken" Barton Bertz, age 99, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family and faith in God always came first; and his wife, Lillian, was the love of his life.
Ken was born July 21, 1925 in Royersford, Pennsylvania to the late Ida & Otto (née Beard) Bertz. He graduated from Royersford High School, and the Pennsylvania Institute of Criminology and Magistrate in West Chester, Penn. and Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He proudly served our nation, serving as a gunner with the United States Marine Corps during WW II, before his reassignment to Camp Lejeune as an instructor.
He retired from B.F. Goodrich in Woodburn, Ind. and along with his wife, Lillian, were the proprietors of Country House Fashions; a womens, teens, and childrens clothing store.
He had many hobbies including making "Jesus” puzzle plaques for the local hospitals and friends and playing golf in the senior league at the Arlington Park Golf Course; he was so proud of his hole in one! Ken was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 64 years and the Leo Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, Valley of Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, and Mizpah Shriners of Northeast Indiana.
Ken is survived by his daughter Holly Bertz of San Diego, California; son, Christopher Bertz of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandsons, Alexander Bertz and Nicholas (Stephanie) Bertz of Fort Wayne; and great-grandchildren, Lilly and Avery Bertz. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Juanita Romer; nieces, Wanda Yates, Fay Pletcher and Renee Newhouse; nephew, Marc Hunsberger; and many dear friends.
Kenneth was proceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years, Lillian; parents, Ida & Otto Bertz; brother, Richard Bertz; and sister, Alica Hunsberger.
