Lois Dorothy Floyd peacefully passed into God's hands on November 25, 2024, after a four-day fight with infection after surgery. Lois was 89 years old. This four-day travail allowed Lois's family and friends to gather at her bedside and express their love and how important Lois has been in their lives. God blessed Lois with a great memory and she shared many, many stories with one and all as she struggled those four days. Truly a joyous but heartbreaking time. Lois was the only daughter of William and Katherine Bell, having been born on September 10, 1935. Lois was raised in the Catholic faith which was where she returned for solace and support in her later years, serving as the head housekeeper and cook for the priests and the Bishop at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception until she retired at age 75. Lois was intelligent, witty, happy, smiling, caring, simple, and a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend (especially with Hattie Matthews). She was the mother of three generations of children; hers, her children's, and her children's children, all of whom loved her dearly. She asked for little, never had a lot, and loved and was loved by so many. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Bill "Willie" Floyd. Lois is survived by her four children, Frances Shilts, Cathy (Joe) Freistroffer, JoAnn Young, and Perry (Sue) Shilts; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. As Lois was finishing her stories and beginning her rest, she told all who were gathered bedside that she saw herself dancing on the Lord's dance floor with Bill and she couldn't wait, she was so ready! A funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at C.M. Sloan and Sons Funeral Home, 1327 North Wells Street, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior to the services. Memorials in Lois's name can be sent to the Fort Wayne Children Zoo where Lois and her family spent many happy occasions.
