Lois J. Messerschmidt, 87, passed on March 30, 2026. She was born on June 8, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter of the late Robert Ruby and Rowena (Myers) Walters. Lois was a graduate of Columbia City High School. She served as a banquet server for several years. Lois was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling and most of all time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois is survived by her son, Steve (Valarie) Messerschmidt; daughters, Cheryl (Todd) Leeth and Trisha Miller; grandchildren, Philip (Kinsi) Messerschmidt, Andrew (Melissa) Leeth, Jacklyn (Genna) Messerschmidt, Brandon Messerschmidt, Tyler Leeth, Emily Miller, and Amanda Miller; great-grandchildren, Jace Messerschmidt, Harrison, Betty, and Baby 3 Leeth on the way; and step-sister, Elizabeth Newburn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl "Butch" Messerschmidt Jr.; granddaughter, Hope Miller; step-father, Leonard Walters; brothers, Dick and John Ruby; and sister, Betty Mason. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or Worship Anew.
