She was an active member of Saint Joseph United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering, singing in the choir, writing plays, and giving sermons as a lay speaker in her home churches and others across northeast Indiana. Throughout her life, she gravitated towards jobs that allowed her to work with people, and she made lifelong friends along the way at The Journal Gazette, Artificial Limb Company, and Crazy Sisters Coffee. Not one to sit around in "retirement," she spent the last 10 + years ushering for events at Purdue Fort Wayne and the Embassy Theatre, occasionally making an appearance as Mrs. Claus.
She is survived by her three beloved children, John (Carolyn) Hess, Haslett, MI, Thomas (Connie) Hess, Westerville, OH, Janet (Randy) Treadway, Fort Wayne, IN, and sister-in-law, Carol Jackson. She took special pride in telling everyone she met about her seven grandchildren; Matthew (Amber Sullivan) Hess, Blue Island, IL, Nichole (Larry) Niewenhuis, Grand Ledge, MI, Ashley (Jason) Southern, Fort Wayne, IN, Aubrey (James) Hofmann, Westerville, OH, Erica (Nick) Timm, Greenfield, WI, Casey (Thomas) Stradtner, South Lake Tahoe, CA, and Kyra Hess, Boston MA. She enjoyed every minute of her time as Gigi to great-grandchildren; Nora, Ella, Ramona, Greyson, and Sansa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and younger brother, Edward Jackson.
