

MARILYN R. RUF, 93, passed peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born Aug. 12, 1922, in Plymouth, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Orval and Fane Roberts. Moving to Fort Wayne with her family as a child, she graduated from North Side High School, later attending Butler University, joining the Tri Delta sorority. For most of her life, she was a member of Pi Chapter of Psi Iota Xi, and the PEO Sisterhood. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader to 33 girls for six years, and very active in the North Side High School PTA. She worked 20 years at Creative Cabinet Co. Marilyn's favorite things were: going to outdoor festivals, weekends at Clear Lake, fun and loving time with family, NASCAR racing, reading mystery novels, "cherry flips" chocolate candy, and the companionship of her beloved dog, Tina. Surviving are her son, Stan (Joyce) Ruf Jr. of Fort Wayne; daughter, Amy York of New Haven; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl Shidler (World War II); and sister, Ruth "Betty" Elizabeth Rapp. In honoring her wishes, a private family service will be held. Memorials may be made to the Allen County S.P.C.A. or any animal rescue shelter of donor's choice. Arrangements by Greenlawn Funeral Home.
