Martha W. Evans

Marti was given life by her creator and was born on August 28, 1940 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the child of late Fred H. & Hulda M. (Uebelhack) Zander. On September 22, 1940 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana, she received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. On April 11, 1954, she publicly confessed her faith and was confirmed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana. She received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood and remained in God’s grace and favor as a member of Christ’s church all her days.

On July 17, 1964 Marti received the gift of a beloved companion in her spouse, Richard C. “Dick” Evans. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage. God also blessed them with the gift of two children, Richard “Rick” and Ryan.

Marti was an active member and volunteer at Emmaus Lutheran Church & School. Her involvement with the school and church was her and Dick’s passion. They worked together to produce many school plays and musicals and improving the facilities. Marti shared her talent at Emmaus and made sure our building, inside and out, were beautifully decorated for the seasons and special occasions.

Surviving are her son, Richard “Rick” Evans; and five grandchildren, Sydney, Bailey, Lauren, Tanner, and Brandon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Evans; son, Ryan Evans; and sister, Anita Clark.

In His grace and wisdom, God called Marti to her heavenly home on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the age of 83 years. Her body will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our sister Marti.

A visitation for Marti will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes – Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. A funeral service celebrating her life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 8626 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804.
