Max was born on February 10, 1956, in Guatapanal, the Dominican Republic, a place that held a special place in his heart throughout his journeys in life. After graduating from the Instituto Superior de Agricultura in 1975, Max worked in agricultural development in the Dominican Republic. Max immigrated to the United States in 1989 and received a Doctorate in Education from Western Michigan University in 1995. He then served the Fort Wayne community as a professor in the department of Organizational leadership and Supervision at IPFW and later PFW for 27 years. Max authored two books: “Antes Que Nada…Después de Todo,” a collection of short stories, and “Retrato del Dominicano en la Organización,” an analysis of organizational behavior in the Dominican Republic. He also enjoyed volunteering and mentoring, and always had a bit of information, piece of advice, or a smile and a joke for everyone he met.
Max was predeceased by his parents, José Manuel and Mercedes; and a brother, Hector. He is survived by his wife, Mercedes; two children, Max Jr. and Paola; his brothers and sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends and colleagues who shared in his life’s work.
A Celebration of Life Gathering to honor Max's life and legacy will be held from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne.
