My beloved wife of 44 years, Nanette Teixeira (Riggs) 76, passed away Friday, January 18 at Aperion Care Fort Wayne, in Fort Wayne. Nanette had a talent to style hair and gift to communicate with others no matter their age. Upon graduating in 1960 from Mishawaka High School in Mishawaka, IN, she entered Beauty College in South Bend, IN and started styling hair in 1961. Nanette moved to Fort Wayne, IN in1968 to manage a beauty shop “Tina’s Swirl and Curl,” for Tina Greenfield. In 1979 she opened a shop of her own in her home and finished out a 57 year career as a beautician, enjoying every patron she had the pleasure to serve. Nanette was a people person. She loved hearing about you, your family and how life is going for everyone. She could easily draw anyone into a comfortable conversation. She was truly interested in everybody she met. She always had a helping hand to lend and if she didn’t know the answer, she always knew the right person to send you to. It was a beautiful gift from a beautiful person. Nanette attended First Presbyterian Church with her husband Mario, and their son Clinton. For over 35 years, Nanette was involved with the hunger task force at First Presbyterian Church. Once a month she organized church members to prepare and help serve a meal at the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission. This was a calling she enjoyed doing. She also organized the collection of can goods to fill the pantry of three food banks in the city of Fort Wayne once a month. Nanette is survived by her husband Mario P. Teixeira, and son, Clinton A. Teixeira, both of Fort Wayne, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert C. Riggs, and Martha E. Riggs of Mishawaka, IN; and sister, Claudia A. Riggs of Elkhart, IN.
