Phyllis Gene Ley, 100, passed away on March 17, 2025. Born on October 8, 1924, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to parents Russell J. Hardy and Freida B. Hardy, Phyllis lived a long and prosperous life as a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to Arnold B. Ley for 51 years, together having seven sons and one daughter. Phyllis was a 1942 graduate at North Side High School. Phyllis had a true eye and passion for the arts. She enrolled for one year at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and studied Art Studies at the Fort Wayne Art School for three years. In later years, she took art classes and was a member of the Fort Wayne Artist’s Guild. Phyllis held great pride for her volunteer work as a member of the Y.W.C.A. Gardening was also a seasonal enjoyment for Phyllis, finding peace when tending to her flowers. Above all, Phyllis loved and cared for her family, and was thankful to see her legacy grow throughout the years. Phyllis is survived by her children, Bruce H. Ley, Joel V. (Susan) Ley, Andrew (Ellen) Ley, Matthew J. (Vickie) Ley, and Eric J. (Rose) Ley; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren all of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold B. Ley and children, Rick A. Ley, Denis A. Ley, and Elizabeth A. Ley. Visitation for Phyllis will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 12PM to 4PM at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 North Wells Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46808, with a service to immediately follow. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Lindenwood Cemetery.
