Obituary of Robert Arden McMahon
ROBERT MC MAHON, 83 of Fort Wayne passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2014. Robert was a loving father, grandfather and friend. Born in Bucyrus, OH, his family moved to Fort Wayne in 1948. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve and was assigned to active duty in Korea as Company First Sgt. He returned home a year later and joined the Home Telephone Company as assistant supervisor of Revenue Accounting Department. He next joined the Fort Wayne Fire Department in 1961 as a combat firefighter and in 1961 was promoted to Fire Prevention Chief. In 1981 he became the first City Fire Marshall of Fort Wayne. In 1981he retired to join the Essex Division of United Technologies as the Chief of Fire Protection, covering 51 locations. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary Intl. and a 30 year member of Anthony Wayne Rotary. He was also a member of American Legion Post 296, VFW Post 2689, and charter member of the Fort Wayne Fire Dept. Museum. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Donahue McMahon, 2 sisters; Barbara Kinder, Rosenberg, TX, Patricia (Hoyt) Elrod, Leesburg, FL, 3 daughters; Cathy (Chuck) Larson, Colorado Springs, CO, Susan (and partner Norb Ashby) Klein, Mesa, AZ, Linda Bunn, Wolcottville, IN and step-daughter Carrie Chapman, Fort Wayne, IN., step-son, Steven Donahue, Colchester, VT, 3 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 10 great grandchildren and 3 step grandsons. Services are will be at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 421 W. Wayne Street, Fort Wayne. On Thursday May 1, 2014 at 11am with calling 1 hour prior. Burial in Lindenwood cemetery.
