Roberta “Jean” (Rychener) O’Shaughnessy, 82, died June 2, 2016 at home in hospice. Born in Wauseon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Florence (Clark) Rychener. Jean was a loving wife of 46 years to husband Phillip who preceded her in death on January 16, 2000. Two of her sisters, Ruth M. Griebel and Betty J. Rupp, also preceded her in death.
Jean graduated as an R.N. from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and worked at Lutheran Hospital, the Surgical Center, and the office Dr. Victor Moeller.
Jean volunteered at the Matthew 25 Dental Clinic. She was also involved in many philanthropic organizations: Isaac Knaap Dental Alliance (Past President President), Indiana Dental Alliance (Past Treasurer), American Dental Alliance, PEO Sisterhood (Past President), Erin’s House for Grieving Children (Board of Directors), and the Rainbow Advisory Board. Jean was a member of Peace Church UCC and served on the Worship Committee, the Church Board and sang in the choir.
Phil and Jean shared a love of travel. Jean’s personal hobbies included painting, crocheting blankets for grandchildren, and candy making each Christmas.
Jean will be remembered for her feisty attitude and quick humor – she loved to laugh - as well as her unfailing willingness to love and to serve. Her family bids her a loving farewell as she departs this life to be with their father in heaven for their next adventure together. We pray God’s peace and God speed for her.
Jean is survived by her children Stephen (Jennifer) O’Shaughnessy, Mark (Laura) O’Shaughnessy, Patricia (Timothy) Atkins, Andrew (Kathryn) O’Shaughnessy, Sandra (Eddie) O’Shaughnessy, and Susan O’Shaughnessy, 16 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Aghabekian of Fort Wayne, brother-in-law, Carl Griebel of Fort Wayne, and many nieces and nephews.
