

Roosevelt “Slim” Moore Jr., born on October 20, 1954, in Perry County, Alabama, to the late Roosevelt “Vell” and Maggie Mae Moore, peacefully departed this life on August 29, 2024, at the age of 69. As the oldest of nine children, Slim was a guiding light and a steadfast presence in his family.
Slim accepted Christ at an early age, grounding his life in faith. In July 1972, he relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he honed various skills through the Job Corps. His work ethic and determination led him to a career as a heavy machine operator at Hanson Limestone Quarry, where he labored diligently for many years. In addition, Slim was an independent roofing contractor, a testament to his versatility and expertise as a jack of all trades.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Maggie Moore Sr.; and his sisters Maggie Moore and Mary Louise.
Slim's memory will be forever cherished by his loving companion, Willie Mae Carlisle; his three children, Yulonda Carlisle, Roosevelt (La’Toya) Moore III, and Dominic (Kandice) Moore. He also leaves behind his devoted siblings, David of Huntsville, AL, Eddie of Selma, AL, Annie (Jeremiah) of Selma, AL, Daniel (Tina) of Chicago, IL, Joseph (Suzanne) of Prattville, AL, and Patricia of Selma, AL; additionally, he is survived by 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who will continue to carry his legacy forward.
As we reflect on Slim's life, we are reminded of the scripture, James 2:17: “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Slim's life was a testament to this truth, as he lived out his faith through hard work, love for his family, and service to others. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit, his faith, and his works will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.

A visitation for Roosevelt will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46805. Following the visitation will be a a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
