Obituary of Shirley Mae (Dowdell) Tubbs
Shirley Mae (Dowdell) Tubbs, 69 of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed from this life on Monday, September 26, 2022 at her home. She was born to the late Henry & Mary Dowdell on January 5, 1953, and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Shirley Mae (Dowdell) Tubbs was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who left this world peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the age of 69. She attended Central High School. After high school, Shirley earned several certifications and degrees and excelled in exploring various career paths. In her early years, she worked for General Telephone Company (GTE) and served as a lead trainer during her tenure there. Later in life, she was employed at Cornerstone Christian College Prep School for many years. She earned a business degree from Cornerstone Christian Bible College. She most recently enjoyed working as a customer service rep at Kroger and as a tax preparer. Anyone who knew Shirley knew she was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. She was a faithful member of The Destiny Dome Embassy @ Cathedral of Praise and served on the Mother’s Board. She was a highly intelligent, funny, sweet, independent, and sometimes a bit sassy, charismatic, free-spirited woman. Shirley loved shopping at thrift stores (suits and shoes were list toppers), pairing scary movies with her snacks, and reminiscing with her family. She had a deep, unexplainable love for her children and all her family and friends. She was also very passionate about anything she was involved in. She proudly wore her heart on her sleeve, and one could never mistake where their place was with her. Shirley Mae will be deeply missed and forever remembered by many, including her daughters, Cassandra (Tommy) Smith, Monique Upshaw, Tara (Alastair) Dowson-Park; 12 grandchildren, Laquadra, Carrington, Tommy, Terry, LaJoy, Tara, Katherine, Kristen, Shawn, Shanaidra, Gareth, and Malcolm; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dr. Oscar (Dr. Helen) Neslon Dowdell-Underwood, Ellen (Kevin) Thomas, Rick (Annie) Dowdell, and Alan (Rebecca) Reed; and a host of many other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Mary Dowdell; her husband, Ernest Tubbs; and her sister-in-law, Danita Dowdell.
