He was born on July 9,1987, to John and Kimberly York, Spencer grew up in Fort Wayne. Afterthe death of his father and the remarriage of his mother, his childhood was spent in the Waynedale area where he went to St. Therese for elementary school, played soccer, dove on the Avalon Pool swim team, played Pal football and grew up with so many friends all around him. After moving to the Homestead area in middle school he continued his love of sports by playing football, basketball and running track. He also continued to make friends, some that turned into lifelong friendships. And he was a good friend. Hewas loyal, selfless, and a very kind man. After graduating from Homestead, Spencer enlisted in the Army National Guard and served in the Infantry when the Guard was deployed to Iraq during the winter of 2007-2008. Spencer loved his country! Once again, he made some lasting friendships with his brothers in arms. And when he decided to begin his career, he wanted to do something with his hands. He liked working hard and he liked being outside, so he decided to become a bricklayer. He loved his work, and he assisted in building several buildings around Fort Wayne that you see today, including the downtown Lutheran Hospital and the Rescue Mission downtown. The last several years he was employed by Hot Crews, where he worked with the insides of industrial furnaces.
Spencer’s greatest joy was his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Bruce and Kim Stahl; his brother Joseph Stahl and his wife Audrey (Morgan), their children Parker, Lincoln, Harper, Stella, and Grace; his sister Samantha and her husband Curtis Wheat, and their children Alayna and Javanni. He is also survived by his grandparents, Jim and Pat Stahl; his aunts, Vicky King of Marion, Janet Stahl, Julie Stahl, Kim Johnson of Noblesville, Kim York of Russiaville, and Susann York of Kokomo; Uncles, Darrell York of Kokomo, Tommy Rojas of California, Ron Stahl, and Dan Stahl; and more cousins than you can imagine spread out all across America! But there are two special cousins who were a little bit more as Daniel Young was sort of like his brother and Zeb Stahl was his brother in arms.
He was preceded in death by his father, John W. York; maternal grandparents, Denny and Madonna Grim of Marion; paternal grandparents, Shelton and Martha York of Amboy; aunts, Ruth Rojas (York), Marleen York; and uncles, Greg Long, Max York and Ron York.
