Susan Marie "Sammy" Mauger, 69, passed away February 12, 2026, at her home in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on July 10, 1956, in Huntington, IN, the daughter of Charles Earl "Pete" Mauger and Ilene Audrey Mauger. She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1974.
Sammy worked as an aid with Heartland Hospice for several years before retiring, earning still another nickname: Patch Adams. She was a natural-born caregiver and many families stayed in touch with her long after their loved ones had passed. Sammy brought peace and a loving spirit to each and every family situation with empathy, compassion, and an appropriate sense of humor. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do to bring a smile to their faces. She even played her guitar and sang to them. Her Elvis impression was second to none.
Sammy loved her family, her friends, her dogs, fishing, and The Beatles. She is survived by her brother, Steven (Mary) Mauger of Fort Wayne, IN; three nephews: Derek (Olivia) Mauger of Fort Wayne, IN, Tyson Mauger of Columbia City, IN, and Paul Mauger; two nieces: Alexa (Daniel) Hansen of Fort Wayne, IN, and Holly (Nate) Combs; five grandnephews: Arlo Mauger, Caleb Hansen, David Hansen, Zane Hansen, and Calvin Combs; and two grandnieces: Elsie Hansen and Ilene Combs.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jeffrey Allen Mauger of Wolf Lake, IN.
Funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Saturday March 7, 2026, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Knolls, Fort Wayne (46804), with visitation two hours prior.
Memorials may be directed to Fort Wayne Humane.
