Terry W. Bates, aged 64, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on January 10, 1961, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to parents Judd and Juanita (Stilwell) Hargis, Terry was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend. Known to many as Norman Bates, Terry was a fun-loving, adventurous spirit whose quick wit, infectious joy and his ornery temper will never be forgotten. His hard work was dedicated to a career roofing for his family’s company, Judd Roofing.
Terry was an avid outdoorsman who had a fond passion in hunting and fishing. He also immensely enjoyed riding motorcycles (or falling off them), his love for nature always taking him the scenic route. If he wasn’t enjoying his hobbies outdoors, he could still be found enjoying them indoors with his favorite video games: Road Rash, Cabella’s Hunts, or Swing Away Golf. His spirit of adventure was matched only by his loyalty to his family and friends, with whom he cherished every moment. Above all, Terry enjoyed spending time with his son and family. He could often be found at Steve’s ranch, sharing drinks with friends, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Terry is survived by his son, James Bates; siblings, Betty Scriver, Bonnie Clutter, Sandy Roese, Shirley Moore, Diana Franklin, Cindy Fry, Maryann Weeks, Tom Bates, Tim Hargis, and Joe Hargis; ex-wife, Noreen Fagan and many who will forever hold Terry’s love close to their hearts. Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Judd and Juanita Hargis, and siblings, Bill Bates and Jim Bates.
A celebration of life for Terry will be held at a later date.
