Willie Conwell Jr.

Willie Conwell Jr., 74, was called home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 19, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was born November 19, 1950, in Centerville, Alabama to the late Willie Conwell Sr. and Mattie Suttle. Willie moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1989.

Willie retired from General Electric and spent his time raising his children. He loved to watch and bet on horse racing, and he also loved to garden. He had a love for cars and could fix just about anything; he was a jack of all trades. Willie was one of a kind. He worked to guide and teach all those around him. He loved everyone unconditionally, and his infectious smile and calm nature made everyone feel safe when around him. Willie was everything to everyone.

Willie is survived by his loving wife, Velma Conwell of 34 years; his children, Theresa Stapleton (Terry), Katrina Snead (Elton), Khrisshanna Wheaton, Asia Douglas (Frederick), Lakiesha Harris, Shira Conwell, Daniel Conwell, Jeremy Conwell, Derrecka Rogers, Christopher Conwell, Bruce Harris (Jetaun), Ida Conwell, Nygia Morrow (Torrey), Chelsea Conwell, Wesley Conwell, Tyrone Conwell, Adraine Conwell, Tylaisha Conwell, and Isaiah Conwell, all of Fort Wayne, IN; siblings, Charles Conwell (Myra), George Conwell of Centerville, Alabama; special friend, Jesse Huckleberry; special sister/cousin, Vera McGee; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and good friends.

He is proceeded in death by his mother, Mattie Suttle; his father, Willie Conwell; brothers, Jesse Conwell and Robert Conwell; sisters, Lula Mae Mayberry, Clara Miller, and May Lula Conwell; and son, Will Conwell I.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1151 Francis Street, Fort Wayne, 46803 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, 46805. Burial will be in Concordia Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
