Zanna was born on December 28, 1930, in Hicksville, Ohio, to Floyd and Zelma Palmer. She was raised on a farm outside of Harlan, Indiana and graduated from Harlan High School in 1951, where she met her first husband, William Gustin.
Zanna and William were married in 1952 and had four children. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom for many years and later worked in various retail roles, ultimately retiring from her position as a baker at Scott’s Food & Pharmacy.
After William’s passing in 1994, Zanna again found love when she met her second husband, Francis Bader. They were married in 1999 and enjoyed their retirement together traveling, participating in Toastmasters, and spending time with family.
Zanna had a deep and steadfast faith in God, evidenced by her well-worn Bible. She was an active member of Grabill Missionary Church since 1955, where she participated in the Bridge Builders Sunday school class and the church choir.
She had a talent and passion for both drawing and painting, often sharing her love for her family with hand-drawn cards. Zanna also had a flair for fashion and enjoyed expressing herself through her clothing and accessories.
Zanna is survived by her husband, Francis Bader; her brother, Harold Palmer; her children, Joy (Kirk) Clark, Christine (Dave) Akins, Karen (Scott) Meyer, and Eric (Amy) Gustin; Francis’ children, Bernie (Patty) Bader, Laurie (Robert) Lahrmin, Brenda (Rob) Badger, Cheryl (Scott) Hamlin, and Karen (Mark) Westerhausen; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Zelma Palmer; sister, Joanne Palmer; and first husband, William Gustin.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, at Grabill Missionary Church 1367 State St., Grabill, IN at 9:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate Zanna’s life, with interment at Scipio Cemetery, Harlan, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grabill Missionary Church (grabillmc.org).
The family would like to thank Cedarhurst Senior Living and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and compassion, as well as D.O. McComb & Sons and Grabill Missionary Church for their assistance with arrangements.
