Agnes was born on January 19, 1917, in the remote Appalachian Mountain town of Revere, North Carolinian, the area was also known as Sodom Laurel. After 30 plus years of devoted service, she retired from The Department of Housing and Urban Development ( " HUD"), based in San Antonio, Texas, where she was a Financial Management Analysis. While at HUD she was known for always working at two or three levels above her pay grade because "she was a woman doing a man's job". She was an amazing woman that was a faithful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an unpretentious person with an iron will and a quiet confidence that enabled her to overcome the challenges and setbacks of life. She led her family with grace and dignity. After her husband became disabled, she willingly and fully embraced the role as the sole provider for her family. As such she became the rock of stability for her family. She was a firm disciplinarian, a loving protector, and financial provider for the family that she unconditionally loved. Through it all, she was a strong Christian that was always active in her local Baptist Church. She was faithful to diligently teach her children by her example. Her life was her message.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Clarence Lee Hough; one grandchild and one great grandchild. She is survived by her four children, Brenda Goad of the Woodlands, Texas, Clarence " Mickey" Hough, Jr of Bryan, Texas, Charles Terry Hough of Fort Worth, Texas, and Peggy Elder of Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
