

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alma Faye Simon, who departed this life on Friday November 07, 2025 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. Born on 08 June 1932 born to the late Arthur and Bessie Jane (Newsome) Ray in Simpsonville, Texas, Alma, the fourth of six children, was known affectionately as Alma Faye by family and close friends. Alma was a devoted mother an enthusiastic educator and a cherished member of the community.
She attended Valley View High School where she graduated at 14 years of age. After graduation, Alma was accepted into Jarvis Christian College and later transferred to Texas College where she majored in Chemistry and received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors. Her first teaching assignment was with the school district in Lewisville Arkansas during her senior year at Texas College. After graduation she began her career in education at Bethlehem Junior High School in Upshur County, Texas. Quickly, she became the favorite teacher for many students and received multiple teaching accolades.
While working at Upshur County, she began her pursuit of a Master’s of Science in Chemistry at East Texas State University, now, East Texas A&M at Commerce. In 1969, Alma moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she begin the second part of her academic career to teach at Carter Riverside High School. Alma taught there until she accepted her final school assignment at Robert L. Paschal High School in 1973, where she remained until retiring in the fall of 1995. Her teaching career spanned 43 years.
Alma loved many extracurricular activities including tennis, swimming, sewing, cooking and public speaking. She was known throughout her community and church for her extremely informative, well-written and well-delivered speeches. But most of all, she cherished her family and friends. Alma knew how to love others, so love was reciprocated frequently by visits from former students, friends and family.
She was known for volunteering with the church and was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She is survived by her son, Vincent and his children Alyssa (Simon) Villa & Myles Simon and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother & father Arthur Lee Ray and Bessie Jane (Newsome) Ray and her sibling’s Lawrence Ray, George (Doc) Ray, Mabel (Ray) White, Ethell (Ray) McGill and Carl Ray and her son Dwight Earl Batts
A funeral service will be held at Carter Metropolitan CME Church, 4601 Wichita St, Fort Worth, TX 76119 on Saturday 22 November 2025 @ 1200PM with visitation preceding the service from 530PM to 630PM at Gregory W. Spencer Funeral Directors 4000 Miller Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76119-0159.
Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel & Cemetery 7301 E Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76112
