Bernard Foy Sr. was born in the Pine Spring Community (Foy Town) of East Texas, near Kennard, on January 11, 1950, to George Marvin Foy Sr., and Willie Dell Harrington Foy. His mother preceded his father in death, leaving his older brother George Foy, Jr., and his family to raise him. Together in a small community where family and friends looked after one another, freely taught and disciplined the children, and loved each other as their own, they lived a rich and full life. They were taught the love of God at an early age. Bernard was baptized at the Pine Spring Baptist Church.
They later moved to Dallas where Bernard graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1968. He then served in the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged after four years of service. Bernard, then moved to San Bernardino, CA, where he lived and worked as a Locomotive Engineer for Burlington Northern Santa Fe for 37 years.
His post retirement dream was to return to his home State of Texas, which brought him to reside in Fort Worth. Although he loved the city, his roots run deep in East Texas, and he often spoke of his love of Kennard and visited as often as he could. He enjoyed visiting with the family at the yearly family reunion, and doing small-town, simple things such as family barbecues, Christmas in Kennard and visiting with relatives and friends that reminded him of all the wonderful memories of growing up in “Foy Town.”
