

Bernard Thompson was born to Fannie Bailey on October 23, 1945, in Madison, Mississippi. He attended Lanier High School where he graduated in 1964. Bernard served as the Lanier High School President of the Band and the Golf Team. He served for 2 years as the President of the High School Class Reunion. Bernard was a member of the Armed Forces from 1964-1968. He furthered his education with a Bachelor of Industrial Arts Degree from Jackson State University in 1972. Bernard served as President of the DFW JSU Alumni Chapter. You could expect to see him anywhere JSU Tigers were playing football.
Bernard was baptized at an early age at the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. He joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in 2009, where he became a Deacon, Parking Lot Attendant, Sunday School, and Monday Night Bible Study until his health began to fail. Bernard was very proud to be a member of the gospel singing group “Men of Distinction”
Bernard fell in love with his beautiful wife, his (Pookie) and made her his wife on July 3, 1971. That union produced his two dedicated sons Travis and Trevor Thompson.
Bernard was employed by FMC Corporation in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he actively recruited Black Engineers from numerous HBCU’s. He served on the Iowa Board of Directors of James Boyd Community Center. He also taught at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa. Bernard accepted a position at General Dynamics (Lockheed Martin) until he retired in 2007 Fort Worth, TX.
Bernard loved to Golf; trophies are everywhere in the house. He played the game of Golf since the age of 8 years old. He loved to fish, just ask Lee Nixon. Bernard was a lover of music, singing and dancing. He loved to cruise, and travel anywhere Lucille told him they were going. They decided they would travel somewhere twice a month. Bernard believed in giving back to the community, so he participated in several philanthropic endeavors over the years.
Bernard was preceded in death by his mother Fannie Bailey.
