He was born February 25, 1930 in Lockney, Texas to Noel Clay and Ollie Pearl Thompson. He grew up in a time of extreme hardships and learned at an early age to prioritize family and savor small things in life without complaint. In 1954 he married his soulmate Jackie Edwards in Crane, and together they had two daughters.
He built a career as an electrician, starting at Phillips Electric before dedicating over 30 years working at Southwestern Portland Cement Company. While raising his family, he continued to serve God through membership on various committees at Crestview Baptist Church.
At retirement, he and Jackie embarked on countless RV trips across Texas and the United States where dear friendships were founded, especially within the Lone Star Bounders Club. They settled in Whitney in 2015 before moving to Fort Worth to be closer to family.
Bill was kind, generous, and had a heart of gold. With an infectious smile that lit up a room, he could not be forgotten. He was a true gentleman who would offer his seat to anyone in the room and hold the door open until no one was in sight. He loved to dance and he always had a hug for everyone. He enjoyed watching sports and the Dallas Cowboys were always a source of joy and disappointment. However, nothing in life compared to his family and the pride he had in watching it grow.
He is survived by his wife Jackie and two daughters Sherry Carroll of Fort Worth and Kathy Clark (Mitch) of Round Rock. Further survived by Bill’s pride and joy, grandchildren; Richard Carroll, Alison Lynch (Jordan), Erin Brauchi (Barry), Will Kerlick (Christine) and Ben Clark, seven great-grandchildren, and an abundance of extended family and friends to cherish his memory. Special thanks to Terry Carter, his “3rd daughter” and good friend for her many years of care and love.
He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
