I met Darrell right around ten years ago and only knew him for a few months. We didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time together, but the time I did spend with him was so enjoyable. He was always so joyful and encouraging. When I moved away he wrote me a very thoughtful letter to say goodbye. I still have it and I will continue to cherish it. People don’t take time to write letters anymore. I I look forward to seeing him again someday. Miss you Darrell!

It was shocking for me to realize a few years ago you are not longer physically with us. Darrell, you was an amazing friend, always full of joy. Some day in a different place, we will play chess together again.  Love you my Friend. 

I’m glad we were reminded of this day even though we didn’t need anything to remind us of the blessing Darrell was to everyone. His concern for all those around him was special. So thankful our family has so many connections to the Crows!

I was blessed to serve with Darrell in BSF leadership. He was an energetic follower of Christ. I enjoyed his wit and wisdom. Darrell was loved by all the leadership and the men in his groups. I know he is with the Lord. 

Darrell was a fairly regular customer of mine at Chick-fil-A in Arlington. In a way, he feels like family. We are family, brothers in Christ. We had conversations about the Lord and faith. It takes faith to be a realtor. Darrell came to hear me preach at  Brookdale Retirement Community in Arlington where I am the pastor. One of my residents nicknamed Darrell “Chick” because of our Chick-fil-A connection. My life is enriched and blessed by knowing Darrell. I pray God’s comfort for his family.


I don’t even know where to begin. I started my career with Keller Williams about the same time Darrell did. I was director of our Productivity Coaching program and was determined to help him succeed. He sat across the aisle from me so we spent countless hours together. I’m very outgoing to a fault and basically forced Darrell to converse with me daily..... bless his heart for putting up with me. I enjoyed every minute of our talks and time with him. We shared breakfasts and lunches together. I’m deeply saddened by his loss. He knows the love I have for cactus and I even bought him one for his desk and he would return the favor by sending me texts of cactus at houses he would show. He was one of the most amazing souls I’ve had the pleasure to meet and I’m thankful our paths crossed. If there is anything at all I can do please feel free to reach out.  God speed my dear friend 

Darrell's Mom was my 1st cousin but more like a sister to me. We raised our children together every week we spent 2 or 3 evening together with our 9 children. Darrell being the oldest always played the part of big brother to all of the cousins and you would not believe how much fun those 9 children had playing together, many times on the weekend the adults would play cards while the children played around the table and thru the house and we had dip, chips, and deserts those were such go times. Yes, Darrell was a leader from a very young age which he carried through his life a strong Christian leader and always pulled anyone that might be on the edge of the group right into the middle of the group and made them apart, yes I saw him change many lives this way.  A life that was taken to soon, may you rest in peace. We love you. Eleene Hoskins Upchurch  

I am so terribly saddened by the news of Darrell's passing.  I've only known Darrell a few short months as we began our real estate career at Keller Williams Arlington but in that short time, it was clear to me that he was a man of God who selflessly served others.  You would always see Darrell around the market center and in class, smiling, cheering people on, hearing him encourage others with a big smile.  I am so tremendously sorry for your loss.  May beautiful memories and the healing power of time ease the pain of your aching hearts.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.  

My family and the Crow family basically grew up together.  

One of our favorite games was playing cops and robbers, batman and robin, etc.  It was always Darrell and I, the older cousins, versus my brother Steve and Darrell's brother Brent, the younger brothers.  

Walkie talkies, riding bikes and playing the creek at Sandy Lane Park right down the hill from their house while the adults played dominos and cooked our families a feast on the weekends.

One of the coolest things ever was watching Big Darrell and his crew build a second story onto their house to make room for their growing family.  I remember being stuck with a babysitter at the Crows house every time a new Crow was being born into world. Poor babysitters didn't have chance.  First it was a girl, Amy, that added a female to our gang.  Next came a set of twins, Laura and Leslie, which was quite the shocker for Jeanne & Big Darrell.  Along the same timeline came Gregg & Deborah.

We also had some good times camping in Colorado.  One time there was a group of older kids at a summer camp that were throwing rocks and splashing us while we were all trying to build a dam in the little creek that separated the summer camp from our campground. 

Unfortunately for them, we had a pretty big pool of water dammed up and they were sitting right next to the water.    

Darrell, Brent, Steve and maybe a couple sisters and I made a plan of attack. We were probably  8 to 10 years old against an army of 14 to 15 years old. So we climbed up the hill and gathered an arsenal of large rocks. 

With all our guns a blazing we splashed the heck out of those trouble makers until they tried to chase us across the creek. But our new pool of water was too deep and  we were too fast.  It may sound silly to people that read this, but for us, the fantastic four, it was a victory that will last a lifetime!  

Darrell may have passed away, but his memories and the great times we had growing up with Crow family will live on forever!!!  

"Young" Darrell, you've always been so dear to us.  We were truly fortunate to have the Crow family next door and loved watching all of you grow up.  Too many times to mention, one or all of the Crows came to the "rescue" of the Caldwells.  We have felt for many years that we were family rather than just neighbors.  Our hearts go out to all of you in the loss of Darrell.  Much, much love. 

Darrell Jr. was my parents' first "grandchild"; the Crows lived next door, and John W. and Una Caldwell loved him as much as anyone could love a child; he obviously loved them, too. When they died, their only "grandchildren" were Darrell Jr., Amy, Brent, Laura, and Leslie. I like to think that my parents had a grand reunion with Darrell and his mom on Sunday. I feel as though I have lost a beloved nephew.
