Just found out your gone. Goodbye my friend

One of my earliest memories with my dad was after he returned to university and we were all living in married student housing. I must have been 3 or 4, but he used to take me to the TCU basketball games. We walked up the big hill to the sports centre and I spent the next two hours dancing in the aisle, trying to copy the cheerleaders. I'm sure he was just desperately trying to entertain a rambunctious pre-schooler so Mom could put the baby to sleep and get some work done but it meant the world to me to have my daddy for a few hours.

After the divorce, it was harder to spend time with dad but he always made our time together special. Mostly, I remember he being 'hands-on'; he introduced me to ice-skating and roller skating and taught me to ride a bike (although I somehow managed to forget and my uncle had to teach me again!). I cherished our weekends and loved his studio apartment. He humoured my sister and I by watching endless Disney movies but also introduced us to the classics - Star Trek (he must have watched the 4th movie 100 times), TMNT, and Batman (I had a major crush).

I am so happy that he was able to meet my daughter, Abbie, and it was amazing watching her with him. He indulged her curiosity about his staples (from his first brain surgery) and happily accepted a ridiculous tu-tu bedecked stuffed cat from Build-a-Bear that Abbie was sure Grandpa would love.

Mostly, I will remember my father's smile, his endless jokes, and his love. He was always there to lend an ear when I needed it and make me smile when I didn't think it was possible.

I love you Daddy.
