David Edward Utorka Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts, David was a man defined by courage, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He was preceded in death by his sister Eileen, his mother Gladys, and his father Felix.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Janet Ann Cary Utorka, with whom he built a life rooted in love, and steadfast commitment. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, joyfully renewed on their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries. He also leaves behind his sons, David Edward Utorka Jr. and Douglas Elliott Utorka; his daughter-in-law Corrie Kress Utorka; his beloved grandchildren, Reagan, Grace, and Michael, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and happiness; his brother John Utorka and sister-in-law Diane Utorka and nieces Elissa and Kristen; and his beloved first cousin and surrogate sister Evelyn Harmer, her husband Kenneth, and their children Liz and Katie.
Those who knew David describe him as kind, loving, friendly, funny, generous, compassionate, empathetic, virtuous, and deeply patriotic. He possessed a rare ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and understood. His strength was steady, his humor genuine, and his heart expansive.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, David served his country with patriotism and honor. His love of country was evident throughout his life, reflected not only in his service but in the quiet integrity with which he lived.
David had a long and exemplary career in the commercial and business aviation industry, working first with Alitalia Airlines at Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. After moving to Texas, he then worked for Alpha Aviation (Dallas Love Field) before moving on to a long tenured role with American Eagle, the regional branch of American Airlines. He was deeply passionate about the industry and the many people with whom he worked alongside through his years of professional service.
Above all, David was a family man. His greatest joy was found in the company of those he loved — at the dinner table, family gatherings, in quiet conversations, and in moments of shared laughter. Though he will be profoundly missed, his legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the values he embodied, and the love he gave so freely.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to veterans’ and military support charities or Catholic charitable organizations.
May he rest in the peace of Christ and may perpetual light shine upon him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Home on Saturday, February 21st, 10:00 am CST. The Funeral Home is located at 6001 Rufe Snow Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76148.
