

FORT WORTH -- Our beloved, Derek August Cooper, 54 years of age was born on 10/12/1961 to Robert Cooper (deceased) and Marilyn Cranston Cooper Hagan in Oklahoma City, OK. He passed away on July 17, 2016 after a short but intense battle with cancer.
A memorial is scheduled for July 22nd 10:00am at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home in Fort Worth with a reception to follow at Woodhaven Country Club. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Derek's life. Donations in his memory may be made to ASPCA.
Derek was a strong, passionate, smart and considerate individual with many interests. He was a life long learner shunning TV for history books, particularly military history, painting war gaming miniature figures, and the stock market. Another pursuit was politics. He was active in Tarrant county Republican politics serving as a delegate, precinct chair, election judge, GOP committee member and ran as a candidate for State Senate District 10 in 2012. Other ways he enjoyed spending his time were walking his 3 dogs, staying fit and long visits to the book store. Derek was a metal fabricator and retired two years ago.
Derek is survived by his mother, Marilyn Hagan of Fort Worth, sisters Laura Hagan of Dallas and Kyla Retzer of Denver, CO, nieces Sydney and Alexia Retzer, stepfather David Hagan of Fort Worth, stepmother Peggy Cooper of Shreveport, LA, stepsister Susan Tripp of New Orleans, LA and cousin Mike Cooper of Alexandria, LA.
