

Hazel Louise (Sanders) McWilliams was born to the union of Frank Sanders Jr. and Hortense Adell (Carroll) Sanders September 5, 1921 in Mexia, TX. Hazel, 99, the eighth child of nine passed October 25, 2020 in Alameda, CA. She was united in marriage to Douglas Lee McWilliams on July 31, 1939 in Harris County, Texas. He preceded her in death May 26, 1992. They were married for 52 years.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age beginning with Sweet Home Baptist Church in Mexia, TX. She was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX for 74 years. She was a faithful member and labored there doing whatever she could to help the ministry of the church. Upon relocation to Alameda, California, she joined The First Baptist Church of Alameda.
She attended Douglas and Dunbar schools in Mexia, TX. Hazel was a long-time resident of Fort Worth, TX. She loved her family and was a loving spiritual woman endowed with much wisdom. She loved having fun and was very outspoken. She also enjoyed reading comic books and doing crossword puzzles Hazel worked for several families including Robert and Edith Schumacher who treated her like family.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas Lee McWilliams; her only child, Marilyn Bernena Green; her only grandchild, Brantly J. Green; her brothers, Floncel (Boy) Sanders and Charlie Beil Sanders; her sisters, Christine (Kiddo) Bosworth, Jane L. (Nannie) Davis, Edwina (Aunt Baby) Fails, Sara Bernena (Little Auntie) Washington, Frankie (Yank) Brewer and Hortense Sanders.
She leaves her legacy of love and devotion in the hearts of her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She “fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith.” (KJV)
