Helen Maxine Stalkfleet

Helen Maxine Moore Stalkfleet was born August 22, 1922 in Snyder OK, the only child of Austin McGary “Mac” Moore and Zanobia Loree Moore. Helen and her parents moved to Long Beach CA at the beginning of WWII.

Helen worked for the telephone company in Long Beach which is where she met the love of her life, Harold Edward “Danny” Stalkfleet. Danny was shipped off to war after only three days of their meeting. Yet those three days and many love letters were enough. They married October 24,1945 after Danny returned from the war.

The young couple moved to West Texas with Helen’s parents following the war. They had five children over the next 10 years: Dana, Suzanne, Scott, Brad and Tracy. They made many friends while in Pecos and Monahans.

Their next move was to Farmington NM where Helen and her family lived from 1957-1967. She was a housewife until the youngest was about school age and started a new job at Odorless Cleaners. Helen worked for Jack Williams Chevrolet and then many years at Holiday Lincoln Mercury after moving to Ft Worth TX. It didn’t take Helen to become bored after retiring and she returned to work for the Clothes Horse 2 resale shop where her flair for fashion came in handy.

Helen forged many lifelong friendships no matter where she lived, worked and attended church. Helen was a vivacious and elegant woman, and a gracious daughter, wife, mother and friend. She had a good sense of humor and liked helping others who were in need. She was one of those strong women who persevered when others would give up.

She found great pleasure and was an incredibly talented seamstress, sewing school clothes and Easter outfits for her children and fine apparel for herself. She found simple pleasures in cooking and decorating her home.

Helen was a devoted member of numerous churches of Christ in West Texas, New Mexico and North Central Texas. She attended the Crowley, Highland and Burleson Churches of Christ.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Mac and Loree Moore and her husband of more than 63 years, Dan Stalkfleet. She is survived by her five children, Shirley Harrop (Frank), Dana Crowell (Walter), Suzanne Amidon, Scott Stalkfleet (Glenda), Brad Stalkfleet (Martha) and Tracy Ortez, eleven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren and numerous cousins and friends.

Although all will miss her very much, they have many treasured memories.
