He died January 8, 2022 at Bethesda Gardens in Fort Worth at the age of 91. He married Marilyn Heicher on October 18, 1952, in Paxton. Howard was preceded in death by his father and mother, three brothers, and two sisters. His wife Marilyn, a resident of Bethesda Gardens, survives. Howard is also survived by two sons: Jeff and wife Jane of Barbados, West Indies, and Doug and wife Leisa of Berryville, Texas; five grandchildren: Marcia Allen and husband Oral of Little Elm, Texas, Andrew Robertson of Dallas, Texas, Rhonda Robertson of Dallas, Texas, Roni Robertson of Dallas, Texas, and Mark Robertson and wife Rebecca of Joplin, Missouri; and three great grandchildren.
Howard was a graduate of Paxton High School. He studied at Lincoln Bible Institute in Lincoln, Illinois and Dallas Christian College. He served in the US Army and worked as an army flight instructor. A lover of flying, he was a professional pilot for many years, both before and after moving from Illinois to Texas in 1969. He then established a second career working as a railroad engineer for over two decades.
Howard’s life was exemplified by faithfulness and steadfastness. A devoted Christian, he faithfully served in the church both in Illinois and in Texas. He was a founding member of Southwest Christian Church in Fort Worth and served there for over 45 years, many of those years as an elder. To Howard, the church and its work was a lifelong priority. Many who worked and worshiped alongside him can testify to his steady leadership by word and example.
Howard was also devoted to his family. He and Marilyn were high school sweethearts and were married for over 69 years. They were inseparable, and everybody who knew them knew that you didn’t see one without the other. Howard loved his wife, and he loved his family. To him, family was the source of the greatest joys in life and the things most worth treasuring.
Howard Robertson left a legacy of integrity, hard work, humility, and consistency. Even as we mourn his death, we celebrate his life, a life well lived. We count ourselves blessed to have known him as husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. “And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)
