He was born in Saratoga, Texas on Oct. 9, 1937 to Floyd and Rachel LeNormand Holst. He married his wonderful wife (Iona) Ima Jean Cowan Holst on 12/28/1957 in Weatherford, Tx at the Justice of the Peace. They were married for 62 years.
Joe enlisted in the Air Force on Feb. 19, 1956 in Houston, Tx. He eventually went in Civil Service in 1977 and the Army Reserve in 1976. He retired with the US Army Reserve in 1992 with 28 years total. He was a true patriot and loved his country. He was all our hero. His family loved him dearly. One of his favorite things was to sing Reveille every morning to get everyone up and going in the mornings. He was strict but we knew he loved his children and especially his wife Jean.
He also loved to hunt. Especially with his son, Kenneth. They had deer leases over the years. His wife Jean also loved going with them, just to be with him.
Joe is survived by his children: daughter, Cheryl Johnson and husband, Steve, of Bethlehem, Ga: son, Kenneth Joe Holst and wife, Julie, of Beaver Falls, Pa: daughter, Carol Knisley and husband, Dale of Burleson, Texas, grandchildren: Bryan Johnson and wife Cammie of Loganville, Ga; Jamie Johnson of Grayson, Ga; Brittney Pruett of Burleson, Tx; Jeanette Hart and husband Jeff of Joshua, Tx ; Jared Holst of Fayetteville, NC., great grandchildren: Mallory Johnson, McKenzie Johnson, Paul Morton, David Jewell and Keelie Hart, and his sister Nancy Holst Moret of Santa Clarita, Ca.
