With heartfelt gratitude, we celebrate the life of John Paul “J.P.” Knierim, whose earthly journey came to an end January 30, 2026, at the age of 83, and whose spirit lives on in the promise of eternal peace.
He was a cherished Husband, Father, and Papa whose warmth, character, and spirit touched the lives of many. His memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
Born June 28, 1942, in Claude, Texas, J.P. was the youngest son of John and Maciel Knierim. He found purpose and joy in his wife of 62 years, his boys, his daughter-in-law, his grandkids, traveling, and amateur philosophy, leaving a lasting impact through dedication and care for others.
Raised in the Texas Panhandle, near the JA Ranch, J.P. dreamed of becoming a cowboy, but life had a different calling. In 1960, while registering for classes at Lubbock Christian University, he met Marilynn Kay Lynn of Clovis, New Mexico, and from that moment on, they were inseparable. After graduating from Eastern New Mexico University, they traveled throughout the Permian Basin with Texas Electric Service Company, forming lifelong friendships and welcoming two sons. They eventually settled in Fort Worth, where J.P. devoted himself to family and faith, rarely missing a game or event for his children—and later, his grandchildren, and an active member of Altamesa Church of Christ. After retiring from TXU, J.P. and Marilynn embraced a new chapter, sharing years of travel with each other, their children, and their grandchildren. Together, they explored the world, collecting countless memories, laughter, and stories that will be treasured forever. Though J.P. loved seeing new places, his heart was always drawn back to his favorites: the Texas Hill Country, especially when the bluebonnets were in bloom, Hawaii, and the peaceful beauty of the mountains.
J.P. is lovingly remembered by his wife Marilynn, his children Kevin and Jared, his daughter-in -law Kristi, and his grandkids Viktor, Clayton and Isabelle, Karis and David, Lark, and Paige, along with many extended family members and friends who were fortunate to share in his life.
J.P was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, his father and mother-in-law Violet and L.D. “Bill” Lynn, and his brother-in-law Butch Lynn, and is now reunited with them in peace.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in celebration of J.P.’s life to share memories, gratitude, and the joy he brought into the world. The family sincerely appreciates the kindness, prayers, and support shown during this time. J.P.’s legacy of love, integrity, and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him:
