

Juanita Silva, a devoted educator, respected leader, and cherished family member, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on October 5, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of Rosa and Ysabel Silva.
A lifelong learner with a passion for education, Juanita graduated from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and her Master’s in Bilingual Education. Her career began in 1972 as a classroom teacher, where she quickly established herself as a dedicated advocate for her students. Over the decades, her leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to equity guided her rise to Associate Superintendent of the Fort Worth Independent School District, from which she later retired.
Juanita’s work profoundly shaped the educational success of thousands of students. She revitalized the district’s ESL program during a critical time, ensuring that Hispanic children—and all multilingual learners—received the support they deserved. Her extraordinary work ethic, combined with her compassionate approach to leadership, earned her deep admiration from superintendents, colleagues, and educators across the district. She was known for her tenacity, her insistence on delivering high-quality opportunities for every child, educator, and her belief in the transformative power of education.
Juanita is survived by her loving family, including her brothers Robert Silva (and family) and Severo Silva (and family); her sisters Stefana Markson and her daughter Susie Marskon and wife, Jenny; Dolores Cashen and husband, Douglas; her niece Jessica Gomez and her sons Estaban, Keangston, and Julius; her niece Cecilia Soria and her son Johnathan Oliver, his wife Emily, and their sons Jake, Zeke, and Luke; her niece Cristina Hill, her husband Vincent, and their daughters; along with numerous other relatives, nephews, nieces, and friends whose lives she deeply touched.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Rosa L. Silva; her father, Ysabel Silva; her sister, Antonia Carrizales; her nephew, Henry Reyna.
Juanita will be dearly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and the countless individuals whose lives were enriched by her humanity, integrity, and steadfast commitment to excellence. Her legacy lives on in the communities she served and in the generations of those she inspired.
