

Lynn Carland Cook, age 79, died in Fort Worth, TX, on November 20, 2021. He was born in Detroit, MI to Lynn C. and Martha Stone Cook. He attended Royal Oak elementary and middle schools. He and his family moved to Pleasant Hills, PA (suburban Pittsburgh) where he graduated in 1960 from Thomas Jefferson High School. He attended Penn State University and Ferris State College (Big Rapids, MI). He did post-graduate work at Michigan State University and the University of Texas Permian Basin.
His early career was as a manager and then franchise owner of McDonald’s Restaurants in San Angelo and Odessa, TX. He also owned and managed the Oil Patch Restaurant. After selling his restaurants he held a few other restaurant management positions until he settled on a career in real estate. He began with Dene Kelly Real Estate and taught real estate classes in Midland, TX. He moved to June Guess Realtors in Odessa and subsequently began The Havens Group with Janice Havens.
He was married to his high school sweetheart Marian E Uramey in 1961. They were best friends and were together for 60 years. Their common passion was traveling, visiting all 50 states of the union—Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Panama, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Peru, Chili, Argentina and most of western Europe. His interest in the wine and spirit making processes was behind many of his travels. He especially loved traveling with his children, grandchildren, sister and all of their respective spouses.
He is survived by his wife Marian and his sister Sharon and spouse Randy Straessle; by his children Christopher Cook and Veronica, by Leslie Owen and husband Jack, by Nathan Cook and wife Kerry, and by Beth (Elizabeth) Jordan; by his grandchildren Kimberly Penick (Cameron), Bailey Goolsby, Kevin Cook (Michelle), Jerimiah Canady (Stephanie), Paul Canady (Katie), Mark Canady (Katie), David Canady (Katie), Allison Cook, Erica Cook, Julie Cook, Tanner Jordan and Torrey Jordan, and 13 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all his family, friends, and co-workers. He was selfless and mandated that his body be donated to science.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 3:00 at Midland Country Club. The family invites all his friends and co-workers to come and celebrate his life. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
