Maxine Price Ray

A graveside memorial will be conducted at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth on Monday Aug 1 followed by a memorial service at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Dr Mike Milburn of First Baptist, Burleson will conduct the memorial service.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials are sent to Dayspring Fund, 6400 Cheyenne Trail, Plano, Texas 75023.

She was born on June 29, 1911 at Collegeport, Texas, the oldest daughter of Robert (Dick) and Norma Harris Price. She grew up at Palacios-by-the-Sea, Texas, and at 105, she is the oldest graduate of John Tarleton College, now Tarleton State University. She and her three younger sisters were all graduates of Tarleton College.

At Tarleton College, she was a member of the Corps. After graduating from Tarleton, she attended Sam Houston State University and taught first grade at Palacios.

Raised in a staunch Presbyterian family in Palacios, she was teaching first grade when a handsome young single pastor named Carroll Ray came to First Baptist Church. After dating for a year or more, they married at the church on Sunday morning, November 13, 1932.

The Ray’s have three children, Ann (Spivey), Carroll Jr. and Robert P (Dick). They served churches at Italy, Laredo, Clarksville, Houston, Pampa and Perryton before Carroll Ray became Director of Missions in the Top’O Texas, the Texas Panhandle.

Carroll and Maxine Ray retired near their oldest son and his family in Burleson in 1972. Maxine Ray moved to Plano in 2004 after her husband’s death. She has lived at Dayspring Assisted Living since 2004.

Mrs. Ray is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Carroll B. Ray, by her son, Carroll Ray Jr., sisters, Bobby Babcock, Nancy Sisson and Cherry Waldrep.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Spivey and her husband Ed of Allen, son Robert P. Ray and his wife Sandy of Benton, AR, her daughter-in-law, Joyce Ray of Fort Worth and their families. She is also survived by four nieces, eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.
